About Crate & Barrel

The heart belongs at home. We also spend the most of our time there. Your home should be a reflection of who you are, filled with trinkets collected throughout travels and objects that make you feel good inside. The goal of Crate & Barrel’s home decor is to help you create a space where you feel comfortable and at home. The company has attracted more than 2.4 million Instagram followers and has made cameos in the homes of several celebrities, including Reese Witherspoon. Additionally, it is clear that Crate and Barrel has built a name for itself in the interior design industry given that it was featured on the cover of New York Magazine.

Our feelings are influenced by the sanctuary’s look. A house may be transformed into a home by using colours that make us happy, textiles and textures that grab our attention as soon as we enter the space, and photo frames of pleasant experiences.

Gordon and Carol Segal, a married couple, created Crate and Barrel in 1962 with this notion in mind. The inspiration to create objects that were both attractive and utilitarian in any location came from their Caribbean honeymoon.

The goods used to exhibit the founder’s items for sale are whence the term Crate & Barrel originated. The company continues to carry out its purpose of “helping people appreciate how they live in times that matter” while staying true to its roots and never forgetting its modest beginnings.

My Experience

After going over a month without a sofa in my living room, I’m not sure I can fully describe to you how fantastic it feels to have one now. Even though I am aware that this is a first-world issue, my sofa was much missed.

I recently moved into a new house, and needed to sell the sofa from my previous residence since it was far too big for the living room at the new house. I bought a Crate & Barrel Lounge II couch for the new home, but there was a mistake with the shipment, so I had to wait six weeks for the sofa to arrive rather than receiving it only a few days after moving in.

This week, my sofa finally came, and I’m here to tell you that it has completely changed my life. I sat down on that sofa as soon as the delivery men left, and I didn’t get up until I had to go pick up my cousin from school. When I got her home, we watched a movie and cuddled.

I wanted to share a review of my new Crate & Barrel sofa because I searched everywhere for information about it when I was choosing it and couldn’t find much. I don’t know about you, but I always prefer to find reviews from bloggers over reviews on the store’s website – I love to see photos of the products in someone’s home and read a more personal review than you typically find on a store’s site.

Let’s start by discussing how I came to purchase a couch from Crate & Barrel. After all, there are inexpensive IKEA sofas available that people are always gushing over.

So what made me make my decision? Several things, in truth. As it came time to move into this house, I had every intention of buying a couch from IKEA, but when I started looking around, I immediately discovered that wasn’t anything that was particularly speaking to me. I had an IKEA sofa in my garage in the previous home, and my initial plan was to purchase another one for this one. However, as I started to plan, I discovered more problems with it. For example, I didn’t like how low it sat and the fact that the vaulted ceilings in the living room would make a sofa that was so squatty look silly. I looked at a few different sofas in IKEA, but none of them were just what I was looking for.

I strongly opposed ordering a couch online. Although I decided that I must be able to sit on a couch before deciding to buy it since my butt is too finicky for just any old sofa, I am aware that there are some fantastic, really inexpensive alternatives out there.

Finally, I had very specific requirements for the dimensions of my sofa. Since I was upgrading from a very large sectional, I was aware that losing so much seating would be difficult for me. It’s difficult to locate extra-long couches (most are approximately 80-84 inches long), but my Crate & Barrel sofa is 93′′, which is the largest sofa I could put in the room without it entirely taking over. I wanted to make the most of the space I had.

I shopped at a few other places and lounged on various couches as I moved about, but I kept finding my way back to the Lounge II from Crate & Barrel. In addition to being really comfy, I adored the fabric’s quality. It has an extremely thick weave that seems incredibly opulent when contrasted to the fabric on my old couch. Although it was a hefty cost, particularly when compared to purchasing from IKEA! After speaking with several individuals on Instagram and in person, I came to the conclusion that a sofa is one of those purchases that is worthwhile doing. If I take care of this sofa, it should last us around 10-15 years, as opposed to the slipcovers on the IKEA sofa, which started to show signs of wear after just 6 years. Again, this is not meant to be a criticism of IKEA sofa, I absolutely adore them and believe they’re a fantastic choice. But I’m making an effort to purchase some more durable items for my house and are being careful to make investments in things that will last a long time. I’m hoping this sofa is one of those items!

Let’s examine the distinctions between the ordinary Lounge II and the Lounge II Petite now because they confused me while I was placing my order and was the reason my sofa ended up being so late. The seat depth on the conventional version of the couch is 29 inches, while the seat depth on the tiny version is 24 inches. Although both sofas appear to be almost identical, one is substantially deeper than the other. When I was in-store shopping, I was able to sit on both of the couches. However, as soon as I sat down on the standard Lounge II, I could not truly just sit on the sofa rather, I needed to “lounge” in order to feel comfortable. The sofa is so deep that, unless you have legs that are 10 feet long, there is essentially no chance your feet will be anywhere close to the ground when you sit with your back against the back rest. However, the smaller version is not only incredibly cozy and lounge-friendly but also shallow enough that you may sit in it frequently without feeling like a child.

The medium-tone grey colour I picked for the couch is called “Steel,” and I believe it is the ideal neutral hue to blend into just about any decor. I appreciate that it doesn’t seem overly weighty in the space because it’s substantially lighter than the prior sofa’s dark blue colour. There are literally a gazillion different alternatives for this sofa’s fabrics and colours, but many of them require special orders, which add time and cost to your purchase. I thought some of the more elaborate fabrics looked very stunning, but the “Taft” cloth had a really good, substantial, and solid feeling. My fingers are crossed that it holds up well since my dog will undoubtedly put it to the test.

In the living room, there are still a lot of items I need to change or add. I’m presently looking for a new media cabinet and intend to furnish the space with a rug. Additionally, I have plans to ultimately swap out the bookshelf next to the sofa with a piece of furniture that would better match the area and offer some covered storage. I’m pretty happy with how things are coming together, despite all of the adjustments that still need to be made. I adore how cozy this living area is despite how little it feels compared to the old house. I’m eager to come up with some innovative storage ideas for this room.

Of course, when I’m all sick of being so near to one another, my obsession with this couch could disappear. Come back to me in a year or half…
